Between 2010 and 2011, India's gross domestic product grew by 8.7 per cent. Packaging is one of the fastest-growing industries in India, growing at about 15 per cent a year, with deals worth $15.6bn. Over the next five years, it is expected to triple by about $60 billion. In recent years, Indian packaging and processing enterprises have introduced the latest technology and high-end equipment. Between 20 and 25 percent of India's imports are packaging machinery, worth $125 million. Per capita packaging consumption in India is less than the global average, so the Indian packaging industry provides huge business opportunities. A large and rapidly growing middle class in India is helping to boost demand for retail packaging. India's middle class, now 50 million, is expected to grow to 583 million by 2025. India's retail market is the fifth largest in the world and the second most attractive emerging investment market. The market is now worth $511 billion and is expected to grow to $1.3 trillion by 2018. Due to the rapid export growth in recent years, India has higher requirements on packaging standards to adapt to the international market, which has become another factor stimulating the growth of packaging industry, especially packaging machinery. And corrugated industry is still wandering in the intersection, kraft paper, price increases, with appropriate price of international standard the unavailability of paper and so on are intensified with the challenge of corrugated industry, but the challenges and opportunities coexist, often in order to meet the needs of the consumers, many global companies set up their own corrugated board production base in India, and can increase production and improve the performance of the box corrugated machine automation of the production is imperative. Given its own capabilities and experience with Indian corrugating machinery makers, strategic alliances between India and overseas machinery makers have taken place and will become the norm, an excellent opportunity for Chinese companies to explore the Indian market.
